About the white line of foam on the sea in the above photos - it is caused by meeting of the fresh water from the Erne River which enters the sea at Ballyshannon when it meets the salt water of Donegal Bay. All three gates on the hydroelectric dam are discharging water at the moment - a huge amount of fresh water floating on the sea this morning. The line of foam is closer to shore than I have ever seen it before, indicating a huge amount of fresh water in the bay. The line is usually much further out. (compare the same salt meets fresh phenomenon in Alaska, in bottom photo)

Same phenomenon in Alaska caused by fresh water from melting ice meeting salt water.
