Hurricane Rachel has been passing by since last night with south to southwesterly gales which are due to reach storm force 12 about now. This south side of Rossnowlagh has had a relatively quiet night due to the shelter of the big Coolmore Hill. We will get a hammering between now and lunchtime as the gales shift from southerly to west and northwest. Meanwhile the sea is churning with 10 foot swells or so over by the Creek and Coolmore point. A severe run and backwash on the beach but waves just 4 foot or so right now.
